Ok, so I'm known around these parts for being heavily biased towards VAG. Specifically Audi, and for the most part that's true. I still am heavily biased towards VAG, depending on who you ask. (Everybody I think.) But a little bit of a change to try something different would be kind of nice. Just to sort of taste a kind of car and community that I'm not really accustomed to. Along with the fact that I'm getting a little tired of being told to lower my A4 even lower than it already is. Potholes hurt my spine, that's about as low as it's going to get.
I've sort of always wanted a Mustang or a muscle car of sorts. I've had experience with a 5th gen Mustang V6 coupe, a New Edge Mustsang V6 convertible and a Camaro convertible. They were all great, fun cars but the styling and build quality of the New Edge was lacking to the point where I just couldn't stand the styling cues or see myself driving one. EG: Fake vents on a V8 Mustang. That's dumb.
There's just a thing about the styling, how they look, sound feel and honestly the image that I've always wanted to experience with myself. I can't really explain it and it sort of surprises me myself since I'm blinded by bias towards VAG.
But there's that. The Mustang, Challenger and Camaro all are going onto my future next car list, right between the S4 and the A4 Avant.
And OppositeJohnLocke is much better than anything with "brt" in it. Wooooot John Locke.

Nice. You are biased towards VAG and I am biased away from them and Volvo haha.
However, i think we agree on the Mustang. I should go test drive a Challenger this week. Because race car. Cavalier getting long in tooth plus horrible overall car ;)
I too will get something new soon. I may keep the cavalier around though.

I've been thinking of jumping off the Japan-train and getting some American muscle for my next car.
A new Mustang (possibly the new Camaro) are definitely on my "next sports car" list; along with the Elise, Exige, and some sort of Porsche (likely a Cayman GTS, or possibly a 911).

Didn't you want an old land yacht or something, haha?

I'm always on the lookout for a cheap vintage Porsche 911 SC, but I'm not really sure if it's meant to be, since I never can seem to find anything.
Another thing is that all the hate that the V6 Mustang gets. I don't understand it, makes no sense at all to me.

Check out AZ. Back when I lived there a perused CL, I came across quite a few clean old 911s. Can't remember how many were 911 SCs, but it's definitely a great place to look.
Meh, I'm not big on the V6 honestly. For me it'd be either the Ecoboost 4cyl or the V8.

'cheap'
"vintage porsche"
those 2 term are mutually exclusive

I could not afford shipping worth a damn. I always keep an eye out on Beverly Hills Car Clue or whatever it's called and Craigslist though. Cheap 911s are long and far spread apart. That included, I'd need a reliable daily also. So I might just have to bottle it and save that for another stage of my life.
I'm not huge on the V6 either, they took way too much power out of it. The V6 in the Camaro is pretty damn good though, 320 HP or something like that. They've completely muffled the hell out of the sound though.

With the 944, 924, 914, 928 and a few others it normally works. But with anything involving 911. Nothing, haha.

Yeah, if I were to pick up an old 911 it'd be a restoration project that would take a lot of time. haha
That will have to wait until I've got a house and a garage.

You should get a CTS Coupe. Then you can be known as my sidekick.

Still do, but I am leaning towards getting a new DD and keeping the Cavalier for stupid kicks and giggles and then LS4 swap or something someday. Trade in value only $500, may as well keep it. I have intimate knowledge of it's vehicular history lol.

'I'd love to be someone's sidekick.' - No one in the world, ever.
The CTS Coupe I can agree with though.

Because no one else said it yet...
I'm also heavily biased toward the vag.
I'll see myself out.

I've been a VAG guy for a while, on my 4th one currently.
Also drove a new Mustang over the weekend for a rental car. The car overall was great, except for the steering, which was the worst steering I have ever experienced. Wayyyyyyyy too light, and driving on the highway was awful, as it kept darting left to right, and I had trouble keeping it straight and not getting sea-sick. My big-ass truck has better steering. It was fine at low speeds, however. The one I had was a V6 with little wheels, not sure if the I4 or V8 and different wheels make that big of a difference.

Yeah but those people haven't been MY sidekick.

I too am heavily biased towards VAG (also primarily Audi), but I have to admit I really like the new generation of Mustangs, and I like the direction the Mustang has been taking. However, and this is just me, I couldn't see myself owning one as a daily driver, I think it would be great fun, for sure, but I wouldn't want to live with it every day. Part of the reason I am so biased towards Audi are their interiors, and because of that (and the practicality), I can't see myself getting rid of my Avant anytime soon. Even with its age (its a B7), the interior is still on par or better than the newer cars of many people I know, it still has the speed and even handling to make it comparable to a lot of newer cars I've driven, and there's nothing I'd rather take up to the mountains on the weekend or on bike trips out to the western slope or to Utah. Would it be nice to experience something a lot different, like a Mustang or Camaro? Definitely, and at times I find myself wanting to find a way to get into a car like that for a weekend, but at the end of the day, I could never justify replacing the Avant with anything but another Avant. I'm not trying to sway you away from American muscle by any means, but, having had similar thoughts from time to time, I just wanted to put my two cents in. Granted, because of my activities and my lifestyle, the Avant works out to be a perfect complement to my needs and wants, and it may well be a completely different situation for you, but hopefully throwing my experience out there will maybe help offer some perspective into your situation.
Sorry for rambling there, but hopefully it's somewhat insightful.
And to throw one last little bit of thoughts in here, if I were to look at American cars, I don't know if I'd be so quick to drop Cadillac off the list - though the ATS or ATS-V is a bit more expensive than many of the Camaro or Challenger or Mustang variants, I see it as being the most comfortable to live with of all of them.

I'm really wanting to do the same, but am very afraid of the added maintenance costs that would come with a lot of the euro performance cars -cayman, E46 M3, E39 M5, etc...I can afford buying one - but budgeting a few grand a year for maintenance is not something I'm used to!
I wish the Mustang wasn't so huge. It's an attractive car, build quality has improved a lot, and the power is great...but I wish it were 80% its current size.

That's the thing, I just couldn't see myself swaying away from a VAG product, weather it be a Ducati or another Audi.
And what you touched on, I find totally true. There are some cars which I could see myself driving for a weekend, but just not owning. A Camaro convertible would be one of those cars. I do like the new styling of the big three, but Audi does consistently win me over with the quality of their interiors. People constantly mistake my '97 A4 for a much newer car and the interior is well suited enough to the point where it could fit in about 10 years later on.
Something as a second car I think I could go with though. But that's for when I'm not completely broke and actually have a little bit of extra cash to throw about. But don't worry, I won't be ditching VAG for no muscle car anytime soon. :P

Haha, I'm currently on my third. It's an addiction I tell you! The good kind of addiction, not like meth.
Rental car Mustangs are the most abundant thing ever, I swear I've seen at least half a million of them where I'm at currently. I would like to think that the higher trim level Mustangs are equipped with better steering though. I'd hope so at least.

Ha, if I could afford that.

Haha, if I were going to find one it would have to be super cheap. That generally means rusty as hell and very incomplete. I'd consider it all worth it in the end with how much those things are going up in value.
I actually should find an adequate house and garage before I start going too much in depth about that though.

I cannot see anything else now everytime someone writes VW that way.
